Soar Energy

Solar Energy - In this article, let us discuss solar energy advantages and disadvantages.

The problem of global warming is mainly caused by emission of carbon dioxide from fossil fuel used by coal plants to produce energy. Because global warming leads to catastrophic damages to humans, we need to look for another alternative source of energy that is not damaging to our precious environment.

One alternative solution is to harness the sun's power into energy, which is called solar energy. The energy from the sun is harnessed and then transformed into energy through either wind turbines or the utilization of solar panels and storage batteries. There is a demand throughout the world to use solar power as the main source of energy replacing the hydroelectric powered or the coal-powered plants.

Harnessing solar power from the sun involves some materials like solar panel and battery storage. The panel will collect the sun?s radiant light and store the energy in the batteries. The stored energy is stored and can be used to operate some machines and appliances. It can also be stored during the day and used during the night. Some electric and power grid companies are now using solar power for providing electric current to their concessionaires. Those areas not reached by electric current are now using solar power for their homes.

In fact, solar power can supply energy capable of operating major appliances such as computers, refrigerators, televisions, and stoves. In fact, solar powered homes even have cold and hot water heaters. This will definitely save electric bills and eliminate worries in case the local power grid shuts off. Along with homes, some healthcare centers are also using solar energy especially to their emergency and intensive care units (ICU) that need 24 hours uninterrupted power supply. It is very effective for bigger hospitals where generators cannot handle the demand for power. Earlier solar energy was expensive but now it is more affordable. The research for solar energy applications is on going along with the improvement of ways on how to capture and store the energy efficiently.

The Advantages of Solar Energy

Solar energy has many distinct advantages and benefits for the environment and for people. Here are some of the advantages brought about by solar energy:

1.   Solar power is environmentally friendly. This is one of the biggest solar energy benefits. It is non-polluting and non-consumptive. Solar power does not emit carbon dioxide unlike coal-powered plants. The source of solar power is limitless. As long as there is sun?s radiation then there is energy.

2.   Solar power is Economical. Solar generated electricity is much cheaper than coal powered or hydroelectric powered electricity.

3.   Solar power is easily accessible. The price of solar powered electricity is not affected by fluctuation of currencies, shortages of supply or increase of fossil fuel. There is no transportation cost, which will definitely lower the bill.

Today, the usage of sun?s energy has become a reality. It does not only save money but it is easily accessible and environmentally friendly. More importantly, it will lessen the problem of global warming.

The Disadvantages of Solar Energy

1. If your home is at such a place where there is limited sunlight, then you will face difficulties in setting this up. Even after installing solar panels and cells, there may be put to limited use because of the location.

2. Another disadvantage of using solar energy technology is that there is limited range of use for this type of energy technology. For example, you might use it to provide power to your water heater, but may not use it for TV.

3. Maintenance is also an issue. You might be able to do minor repairs which may be needed from time to time. But if there is any major issue, you need to find an expert photovoltaic energy technician in your area. This may not prove easy.

So, keep in mind the solar energy advantages and disadvantages while opting for this kind of energy in your home.
